KAYHURST BASIN is situated on the Portsmouth – Arundel Canal, outside Chichester, heading over the South Downs towards London.

The canal was built to take freight from Portsmouth to London away from the English Channel and avoid the pitfalls and hazards of the open sea

The basin has a small flour mill for the collection and process of grains from the South Downs for the distribution up to London and down to the naval victualing yards around Portsmouth.

There is also a small repair works and stores for barge maintenance and other small jobs.

This layout is is 4ft by 2ft and is run un the 1950/60s so there is a mix of steam and diesel traction.

Operated by one or two people and fits into one car this layout is available for exhibitions
